Palos Community Hospital ~ Expansion and Renovation

Palos Heights, Illinois

Project Description

Palos Community Hospital began their Palos 20/20 Master plan with their vision for the future of healthcare in Chicago’s Southwest suburbs. Primary healthcare goals for the plan included:

  • Integrating procedure services to combine surgery, interventional radiology and gastrointestinal-endoscopy procedures into a single functional and physically integrated space

  • Creating a center for short stay care that provides a single point of entry for all patients undergoing any invasive procedure

  • Constructing new private patient rooms and transforming existing patient rooms from semi-private to private

After 12 months of proceeding without outside, third-party support, Palos decided to hire Boldt to serve as a fee-for-service developer to guide the process from vision to completion.

One of the primary challenges was to complete this multi-phased hospital expansion and renovation program with minimal disturbance to the existing hospital operations. Boldt’s leadership, expertise and experience with complicated hospital renovations and expansions was instrumental in the success of the project team. Several of the significant outcomes of Boldt’s engagement included:

  • Dramatic reduction of Palos’ risk associated with creating new procedures, developing new facilities and refining the culture

  • Reduction of the overall backfill schedule by over 12 months

  • Achieving more than $20 million in schedule reductions and savings from the budget, all while maximizing the value of the dollars spent.
