The new 120,917 sq. ft. Community Treatment Center for the citizens of Brown County consists of a 63-bed skilled nursing facility, a 35-bed adult psychiatric hospital for patients recovering from substance abuse and mental illness and an outpatient clinic including Behavioral Health Services supporting up to 125 clients per day. This facility is designed for patient’s safety and security.
Brown County selected the construction manager before the design began, which allowed for early collaboration. By engaging the construction manager early in the process, the owner maximized the input from Boldt to insure project budget and schedule goals were achieved.
The center is set up as a “village style” campus, with neighborhoods for 10 to 11 residents. Each resident in the nursing facility has a private room, while sharing common living areas. The three wings have unique names and color schemes to assist residents in finding their rooms. The nursing stations are out of sight giving the residents a greater sense of independence. At the intersection of the neighborhoods is a town center that includes:
Chapel
Library
Doctor’s exam room
Podiatrist space
General store
Beauty salon
Dentist
The outpatient clinic and administration portion of the center includes staff offices, treatment and counseling rooms. A tighter security system is used for the psychiatric admittance entrance.
NC-Gold LEED Features Brown County is seeking a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Energy efficiency and indoor comfort is the main goal for the environmentally friendly project. The natural lighting and earth tones create a soothing atmosphere. The mechanical system was designed to meet the LEED requirements. The building covers ten acres with another twenty acres of green space.
