The Boldt Company wins top honors in BUILD Wisconsin Awards

APPLETON, WI, October 12, 2017 – The Boldt Company, one of the nation’s leading construction services companies, was honored with two 2017 BUILD Wisconsin Awards from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Wisconsin. Since 2003, Boldt has won a BUILD Wisconsin award 11 times.

Boldt was honored for two projects in the commercial construction category:

  • Aurora Health Center Southern Lakes located in Burlington, Wis.
  • ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center located in Appleton, Wis.

“These awards are a tribute to the collaboration between our teams and our customers,” said Tom Boldt, CEO of The Boldt Company. “Just as important, we are part of increasing access to quality healthcare in these communities by building high-value, state-of-the-art facilities for diagnosis and treatment,” he said.

Aurora Health Center Southern Lakes was finished two months early and under budget, a result of collaboration between Aurora Health, The Boldt Company, subcontractors and regulatory agencies. The new hospital features a same-day surgery center, expanded oncology, pain management, orthopedics and additional services for the community. The project used innovative techniques such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) to model both the building and the construction process before and during construction to identify potential problems prior to being on the job site. During construction, Boldt project teams created a workforce development outreach program with the Burlington ACE Academy, involving area high school students in building programs.

ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center is an 84,000-sq.-ft. facility designed for the future and encompasses both radiation and medical oncology treatment for patients, including two linear accelerators, cyber knife, PET CT, CT simulator and two high-dose radiation (HDR) rooms. In addition to offering state-of-the-art cancer care, positive patient experiences were maximized through the design and construction process, which highlighted glass, wood and stone building materials to create a warm and welcoming feeling for patients and their families as they visit the center. The facility was successfully brought to life by the project team within a very compressed schedule, as the center was planned, designed, built and commissioned in just 13 months, with construction taking only 10 months. That feat was accomplished through Boldt’s application of innovative Lean principles to the project, open communication between all members of the project team and mutual trust and collaboration between Boldt, ThedaCare and trade partners working on the project.

The awards were presented on October 5 at the association’s BUILD Wisconsin awards event held at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
