APPLETON, WI, Sept. 7, 2018 - The Boldt Company, one of the nation’s leading construction services companies, has been recognized for building the Rochester Public Utilities Westside Energy Station in Rochester, Minnesota. The project received an award of merit in the energy/industrial category in the 2018 Best Regional Projects Awards held by Engineering News Record. Out of 106 entries from 11 states across the Midwest, Boldt was one of only 40 winners.
Boldt was responsible for engineering, balance-of-plant equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning for Rochester Public Utilities Westside Energy station, a’ new natural gas-fired power plant consisting of five reciprocating engines supplied by Finland's Wärtsilä Corporation. Boldt was supported by joint-venture engineering partner Sargent and Lundy. The generation station was designed for additional peaking power capacity, increased efficiency, and significantly lower carbon emissions. Construction began in fall of 2016 and the $67 million facility was fully operational in spring of 2018. It is the largest power development project ever undertaken by RPU and Boldt completed the project two months early and under budget.
The awards will be presented November 28 in Chicago.
