Wisconsin Rapids Family Center

Domestic Abuse Shelter and Office

Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Perhaps nowhere else is it as important to build a comfortable, nurturing environment than in a domestic abuse shelter. The new 23,000 sq. ft. Wisconsin Rapids Family Center combines functional, homelike areas with the latest technology in safety and security.

In our design/build role, we used teamwork, communication and Lean Construction to build a facility that meets the growing needs of the community. Situated on 2 acres, the modified Georgian-style building blends in with the neighborhood while incorporating advanced security measures, such as cameras, alarms, restricted-access areas, and an enclosed parking area and entrance. Staff offices are located in the facility's center to provide continual monitoring of activities.

Inside, therapeutic sunlight streams into the kitchen and second-floor central areas via large windows, solar tubes and skylights, and each bedroom has a privately controlled HVAC system to accommodate individual preferences. Every element of this facility was designed to provide a safe and comfortable shelter for victims of domestic violence.
