Presque Isle Units 5 and 6 Baghouse Installations

Marquette, MI

Marquette, the largest community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and home to Northern Michigan University, prides itself on its abundant natural beauty and efforts toward continuous improvement. A strong commitment to retain its designation as one of "America's Most Livable Communities" included implementing emission-control equipment at its We Energies facilities.

Boldt was chosen as general contractor to install fabric filter dust collectors at Presque Isle units 5 and 6, providing civil/structural, boilermaker and millwright services. Working with Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control and Cummins & Barnard, we used Building Information Modeling (BIM) to stay ahead of progress in the field and facilitate communication among the team members.

In addition to duct and baghouse installation, other elements of the project included excavation, concrete foundation work and electrical system installation. Between Presque Isle's electrostatic precipitators and its baghouses, more than 99 percent of fly ash is captured before reaching the atmosphere, according to We Energies.
