Wayland Residence Hall Renovation

Beaver Dam, WI

Beaver Dam, a picturesque community surrounded by rich farmlands, is home to Wayland Academy, a college-preparatory high-school boarding campus. The campus's first building, Wayland Hall, was constructed in 1855, and though it has undergone remodeling over the past 150 years, it required updates while maintaining its character.

In our design/build role, Boldt rebuilt its interior, creating bedroom suites, a recreation room, student lounges and study areas.

We added an elevator and renovated the building's five faculty residences. Safety features include fire protection, accessible entries, new stairwells, and a security system. New plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems throughout, as well as a radiant-heat system, provide comfort and efficiency.

Flexibility was key to this project's success, to address issues discovered during demolition of an aging building, and to incorporate donated construction services and owner-provided efforts wherever possible.
