Key Points:

While demolishing buildings and rebuilding, Boldt worked around and protected the chemical lines, process piping, utilities, and adjacent buildings to maintain their use throughout the construction.

The shoring plan outlined the design and installation of required shoring of the adjacent buildings and existing utilities in Building 28 during all aspects of construction. Boldt installed and maintained temporary bypass of existing process sewer.

Boldt was responsible for de-watering what was considered contaminated and excavation of contaminated soil below Building 28 that was considered hazardous waste and applicable to health and safety requirements.

Pulp Mill Modernization

Boldt has partnered with Sappi for work at their facilities for more than two decades, from the construction of a multimillion-dollar pulp mill and power distribution system, to several renovations and maintenance projects.

We served as construction manager and general contractor during a nine-year, $600 million plant revitalization, working alongside teams from several architectural and engineering firms. The scope of this extensive pulp mill modernization project included fiber line and wood yard expansions, a lime kiln system, new steam generators and coater modernization.

Installation of a new recovery boiler required our expertise in concrete work and structural erection, and we built additions to house a new bleach plant, color kitchen, pulp machine, cooling tower, evaporator and control complex.

The keys to the success of these projects were the open communication and true partnership we have with Sappi Fine Paper. From rebuilding paper machines to building entire additions, we apply our paper industry knowledge to maximize production efficiencies at every turn.
