Giving students a new high school and stadium, without interrupting their learning environment, was at the top of the Oklahoma City school district's wish list. Finding a general contractor with experience in phased construction was an important consideration in this vigorously bid project.
Working alongside Allen Brown Associates, we constructed the high school and stadium in two phases to minimize the impact on school operations. Phase 1 required demolition of an industrial technology wing, site preparation and new high school construction. Phase 2, completed during the summer, involved demolishing the existing school, constructing a new entry drive and parking lot, and building the new learning center.
The result is a 220,000-sq.-ft. facility with 81 instructional spaces for 1,450 students. Forty classrooms facilitate traditional, English as a second language, special education, business and career-tech learning. New science and graphics labs, cafeteria, auditorium, gymnasiums and athletic fields further the educational experience at the new U.S. Grant High School.
