Key Points:

The project broke ground in June 1995 and by January 1996, the building addition was enclosed in preparation for machinery and systems installations, five months after groundbreaking.

After months of planning by Boldt, the 20-ft. wide, 140-ton Yankee Dryer was moved from the Port of Green Bay over land to Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

No. 35 Paper Machine

Stevens Point, WI

Moving a 140-ton paper machine 100 miles across land is no small task; neither is having a home for it ready and waiting just months after breaking ground. But with decades of paper industry experience under its belt, Boldt had a building addition ready for machinery and systems installation, as the Yankee Dryer was brought to the Port of Green Bay in preparation for its journey to Stevens Point.

As construction manager and general contractor, we worked with Stora Enso engineers to build an addition for the paper machine, which is capable of producing 3,000 sheets per minute of lightweight coated specialty paper. The project included new roll-handling equipment, and new shipping and salvage winders.

The result is a three-story, 223,300 sq. ft. facility that includes office space, expanded pulp and coating make-down facilities, additional finished roll storage, a train shed, and additions to the Water Renewal Center, which treats wastewater from two facilities.
