Todd Wehr Athletic Center
Plymouth, WI
Lakeland College prides itself on providing students, faculty and the community at large with access to fitness equipment and intramural spaces through its Todd Wehr Athletic Center, a gift from the foundation established by Wisconsin steel magnate Todd Wehr.
Twenty-one years after the original Wehr Center was first constructed, the college found itself in need of more space to promote health and wellness. The design/build team of Boldt was chosen to add another 50,000 sq. ft. of space to the existing facility.
Notable features include an NCAA competition gymnasium, lit by natural light and energy-efficient fixtures, with six new courts and surround seating for 1,800.
The 20,000 sq. ft. fitness center portion of the Center offers panoramic campus views through a glass-walled rotunda, and a multipurpose classroom accommodates fitness instruction and meetings.
Support facilities include space for training and therapy, equipment storage, locker rooms, offices, student lounge, and an outdoor patio and concession stand. The new Todd Wehr Center, with its precast and masonry exterior and sloped metal roof, is surrounded by parking space for the Lakeland community.
