Lake Country Power

Service Center Office, Warehouse and Yard Facility

Mountain Iron, MN

When energy cooperative Lake Country Power built a new service center in northern Minnesota, it wanted to incorporate the same environmentally responsible processes it recommends to its customers. Located in a city business park, it used tax incremental financing to defray some of the initial construction costs and is a candidate for LEED certification.

As construction manager and general contractor, Boldt assisted Minnesota-based DSGW Architects in obtaining LEED certification by documenting waste management, recycling, HVAC systems and renewable materials. In addition to using FSC-certified wood and low-VOC materials, up to 70 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfill disposal.

The 38,000 sq. ft. service center offers an improved layout and increased operating efficiencies, with warehouse space, vehicle storage, bays for washing and repairs, and outdoor storage. In addition to its white roof, which reduces heat islands, the building uses solar power for lighting and to reduce the load of mechanically heating the building.

From water-conserving plumbing fixtures to preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles, the facility practices safe, clean energy efficiency.
