Iron County Medical

Medical Care Facility

Crystal Falls, MI

While other county-owned assisted-living facilities were closing in an effort to cut costs, the Iron County Medical Care Facility needed to double in size to accommodate patients. In the process, it became one of the largest and most comprehensive long-term care facilities in its area, as well as one of Iron County's largest employers.

As general contractor, Boldt coordinated and scheduled the work of five other prime contractors - electrical, mechanical, fire protection, landscaping and excavating - on this project to create a warm and inviting facility.

At the new 200-bed center in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, patients enjoy 43,000 sq. ft. of living and dining space. A pod-type layout means each area has its own sitting and eating spaces, and the wood frame construction with masonry veneer and decorative woodwork achieve a homelike effect. The building also offers its employees 12,000 sq. ft. of offices, locker rooms and a kitchen to meet their workplace needs.
