Other Construction Management Projects
Owner:
First English Lutheran Church
Architect:
The Boldt Company; MCL Architects
Boldt Role:
Design/Build
Key Points:
Boldt's involvement began by being selected to assist the church committee with their visionary planning. Boldt facilitated programming, concept development and estimating, and a presentation of concepts to the congregation. This included the use of value management, which provided a format for selecting an architectural firm as a partner in the project and later helped the client analyze concepts and building systems.
First English Lutheran Church
New Facility
Appleton, WI
First English Lutheran Church is unique in that it offers two separate facilities that serve different aspects of the church's ministry, while creating a larger, united community.
The existing historic church, located in downtown Appleton, is joined by a new facility several miles away that meets the needs of those seeking a nontraditional worship style.
Boldt was selected for a design/build role to assist the church committee with its visionary planning. Along with an architect, value specialist and estimator, we presented concepts to the congregation, then worked with MCL Architects to remodel the existing church and construct a new facility.
The new 31,410 sq. ft. building includes a sanctuary, gathering areas, activity center/kitchen, gymnasium and a preschool and nursery that incorporate natural wood ceilings, tile floors and diffused natural lighting. An unfinished lower level provides for future growth. The facility's exterior is made from brick, a concrete radius wall, stone and a copper-clad finish, and overlooks an outdoor amphitheater.
