The Boldt Company; LHB Engineers & Architects

Boldt Role:

Design/Build

Key Points:

Design/build was the only delivery method possible so this project could be designed and allow for student occupancy for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Being the design/builder allowed Boldt to begin construction on foundations prior to having complete construction drawings.

Boldt successfully met the challenges of building the residence apartment in a fully occupied college campus without interrupting day-to-day activities and campus traffic.

Phase 2- Kerst and Scanlon Residence Apartments

Duluth, MN

Kerst and Scanlon Halls each offer units that house four students in suites with split bedrooms, a full bath, a kitchen, and dining and living areas. Because of St. Scholastica's commitment to environmental responsibility, it was imperative these new facilities included progressive features.

A design/build approach was necessary to ensure completion in time for student occupancy. This method allowed Boldt and LHB Engineers & Architects to seamlessly build these apartments on a fully occupied campus without interrupting traffic or daily activities.

In addition to providing a total of 290 beds, the new three-story, wood-framed buildings also offer common and study areas, laundry facilities and a chapel.

The surrounding property includes retention ponds and layers of sand and pea rock that clean the water before it's released into nearby Chester Creek.
