Residence Hall

Aurora, IL

The relationship between Boldt and Aurora University (AU) has been a fruitful one, with Boldt serving as construction manager for many university projects since 2004. Since demand for on-campus housing continues to grow, Boldt and AU have teamed together again to build a new residence hall.

The four-story 27,700 sq. ft. hall is being constructed as a free-standing building instead of an addition to an existing hall in order to preserve a historic grove of pine trees. The building, scheduled for completion in December of 2011, incorporates sun shades between floors to enhance the structure’s aesthetics—but its design is about more than just looking good. Walls are being assembled with insulated masonry cavities to maximize energy savings.

Boldt also used knowledge gained from previous projects to help design the building enclosure envelope, along with architect and engineer Cordogan Clark & Associates, to control air and vapor flow and increase the building’s energy efficiency. Besides design, Boldt has implemented many Lean construction practices to keep the project running efficiently and has incorporated many value-added ideas to provide the highest quality product for AU.
