Bent Tree Wind Farm

Albert Lea, MN

The 400-megawatt Bent Tree Wind Farm is located on a 32,500-acre site known for its strong prairie winds.

Boldt served as foundation contractor, supplying the labor, supervision and equipment needed to construct 122 concrete foundations for turbines.

As each foundation required 540-cubic-yards of concrete, a portable batch plant was set up on-site. We also procured and installed all materials for the anchor bolt assembly systems, the 4,812 tons of rebar required, and the electrical grounding grid and foundation conduit.

Weather and native soil conditions presented several notable challenges to Boldt teams over the course of the project. Heavy rains and flooding raised the water table, requiring over-excavating and stone backfilling to provide stabile crane walks and site conditions in the peat-rich soil. Field drain tiles required continual re-routing and repair.

Still, due in part to regular weekly safety meetings, Boldt workers experience no lost time or recordable accidents.
