Affinity Health System

Utility Plant and Renovations

Appleton, WI

Boldt’s work on the third phase of Affinity’s St. Elizabeth Hospital campus revitalization plan is currently underway. The future vision for the campus began with phase one in 2005, which included a new south addition and parking structure, while phase two saw the creation of the heart, lung and vascular center. The current phase consists of a new emergency department, surgery preparation and recovery area, central utility plant, women and family center and cancer center.

Phase three will bring many new services and capabilities to St. Elizabeth’s patients—keeping it at the cutting edge of health care and the latest technology.

The emergency department and pre/post operative unit is being updated and relocated to provide greater patient privacy and expanded treatment areas. The new department will be able to treat 32,000 patients annually with flexiblility and multi-purpose space to handle nearly 40,000 patients.

Updating the utility plant includes replacing equipment more than 50 years old. Upgrading the current technology will result in an estimated 25-30 percent energy savings annually—now that’s BoldThinking®.

The Women and Family Center renovation includes the creation of a breast center dedicated to cancer diagnosis and expanding and redesigning birthing suites originally built in 1924. The new Women and Families Center will create a space that better integrates care from birth to post-partum. Renovating and expanding the Cancer Center for medical and radiation oncology will allow for convienent access to innovative treatment options and a caring, committed staff through a dedicated entrance and parking.

Boldt is using its Integrated Lean Project Delivery® (ILPD) process to improve productivity and project value during phase three. As construction manager, ILPD was an easy choice for Affinity—making the whole process smoother and more efficient: something every owner likes.
