Ada school board approves contractor for learning center

ADA Evening News

Feb. 9--Ada school board voted unanimously to approve a contract with Boldt Construction as the general contractor for Ada's Early Childhood Center. Boldt Construction is the same company currently building the jail in Ada. "I talked to our local county commissioners on the jail project and they all agreed that the delays they had there were not necessarily Boldt's fault," superintendent Pat Harrison said. "Jail materials are pretty specialized materials and, for whatever reason, they didn't get them in a timely fashion and they all felt like that was what put them behind. They all spoke highly of Boldt." Harrison said former employers of Boldt all spoke well of the contracting company. "After Mr. Childers, Mr. Anderson and myself made numerous contacts to others throughout the state, we received favorable recommendations from architects and owners, alike," Harrison said. Harrison said Boldt's base-bid was $4,700,000 and the next lowest bid was $80,000 higher. "It was close to $1 million under what we were projecting early on," he said. "That'll allow us to put some more money into the project." Harrison said he hopes the Early Childhood Center will be finished by Spring 2011. "With this contract, we can proceed, get them on-site as soon as possible and start some construction," he said.
