Campus Center
Construction has begun by Boldt on the $35 million Lawrence University Campus Center, a 106,000-square-foot facility in Appleton, Wisconsin. Scheduled to open the second semester of the 2008–2009 school year, this unique facility will offer meeting areas, a movie theater, a convenience store, offices for campus activities, dining and catering facilities and event space for up to 500 LU students and faculty. Construction into the face of an overlook bluff captures panoramic views of the Fox River. Minimized footprint, energy-efficient shading and vegetative irrigation strategies, and low-energy HVAC and lighting schemes are just a few of the features that will help the building qualify for LEED-NC Silver Certification.

Sustainable Features
Building footprint is minimized to limit disturbance to native soils and plant specimens, and to maintain erosion control and native habitat for wildlife.

Special low-flow plumbing fixtures reduce water consumption by more than 30% over standard fixtures, exceeding mandates set by the Energy Policy Act of 1992.
  • Vegetated roof and reflective roof/pavement surfaces aid in controlling microclimate heat island effect on the immediate area.

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems have been designed to be 21% more energy efficient than industry standards require.

Native and adaptive plant/landscape choices selected specifically to capitalize on ambient moisture and reduce the need for additional irrigation.

Interior building materials contain no formaldehyde and low levels of volatile organic compounds, helping to ensure healthful indoor air quality.

Interior and exterior lighting schemes minimize trespass of light to outside of building and off of the project site, helping eliminate unwanted glare.

Zoned and task lighting designs reduce total amounts of energy needed to light work areas and promote productivity, comfort and well-being of building occupants.
