Project Description
BCS was engaged by Woodwinds Health Campus to develop a Master Facility Plan that prepares the organization for future growth. A BCS principal, while with another firm, served as the program manager when the hospital was originally developed in 2000. Components of the plan include service line projections, space and gap analysis, a conceptual budget, and an evaluation of departmental utilization rates, patient flow, and other functional adjacencies.
| Study Objectives |
Develop “within the walls” growth opportunities along with “outside the walls” expansion strategies |
Outline non-capital intensive alternatives to improving capacity and productivity |
Develop a facility plan that ensures future flexibility and expandability while maintaining a patient and family focus |
| Unique Challenges |
Historical patient data was limited since the facility had only been operational for approximately 18 months |
HealthEast Care System, which includes Woodwinds Health Campus, has three hospitals all within twenty minutes of each other, resulting in overlapping markets |
High volumes in the birthing center, radiology department, and emergency room |
Solutions
BCS evaluated projected volumes, capacity and utilization issues, and growth opportunities to develop a phased Master Facility Plan to accommodate Woodwinds Health Campus’ short and long-term organizational strategies.
