Project Description
BCS has been engaged by Palos Community Hospital to serve as the hospital’s program manager on a $470 million multi-phase hospital expansion and renovation project. This project includes a new parking structure, central plant relocation, ED relocation, surgery/bed tower expansion, and back fill project.

Key Objectives
Define a facility strategy that addresses key priorities and future capacity requirements
Provide construction, budget and schedule oversight of projects currently underway
Support CON initiatives for upcoming planning sessions with IDPH
Provide continuity throughout all project initiatives to ensure facility responses to short and long term goals are compatible, complementary and flexible
Develop a plan of capital projects aligned with financial resource availability
Develop master schedule incorporating all design, construction and owner related tasks
Prepare medical equipment planning RFP and facilitate decision making
Coordinate the selection and specific tasks with a commissioning agent for the multiple projects

Unique Challenges
Develop expansion strategy that maintains the natural beauty of the current site
Certificate of Need (CON) approval is required from the State of Illinois
Develop a backfill strategy to reduce overall project complexity and duration
Coordinate phasing of new central plant, new IT, data loop, and relocation of existing water line
Complete new central plant construction prior to demolition of old plant
Coordinate design activities of new surgery and bed tower
Coordinate backfill projects in existing tower after new beds are constructed
