Project Description
BCS served as Program Manager for Clinton Memorial Hospital’s freestanding integrated cancer center. The 18,000 square foot facility is designed to provide comprehensive cancer treatment in a comfortable healing environment. The one-story glass, brick and stone structure houses medical oncology, radiation therapy, complimentary therapies, family support spaces and a community classroom. The atrium and healing garden accentuate the facility, providing natural lighting and views of the landscape water feature for the infusion areas. The project is the first to be implemented from the hospital’s master plan, which was prepared by BCS in 2005.
| Unique Challenges |
Construction schedule demanded that the linear accelerator vault be constructed first and be fully functional prior to the installation of the equipment. |
Coordination of mechanical equipment was critical to the success of the project. |
Construction of the remainder of the facility while maintaining an installation schedule and air quality standards dictated by Elekta and Toshiba. |
| Solutions |
The Healing Pavilion consists of nine open infusion treatment areas that focus on the exterior garden. |
The flexible exam rooms allow easy access for both medical and radiology patients and physicians. |
The Cancer Center is located across the street from the main hospital and establishes a prominent entryway to the medical campus. |
All subcontractors attended detailed schedule and construction meetings. These meetings minimized any revisions and allowed the team to maintain the schedule. |
