Project Description
The School District of Elmbrook engaged BCS to serve as their program manager for the renovation and expansion of its two high schools, Brookfield East and Brookfield Central. In 2001, the School Board established a high school facilities needs assessment team to study the physical facilities and their ability to meet the district’s curriculum demands. After considerable study, the team determined the best course of action was to renovate the two high schools. The School Board is revising the January 2007 approved plan, and there will be a public referendum in the fall of 2007.
| Unique Challenges |
Renovation of two 1950s era high schools, one of which includes several different floor heights on the first floor |
Identifying which portions to replace, renovate and/or expand |
Budgeting of renovation costs years in advance of construction |
Maintaining equality between the facilities |
Preserving flexibility and expansion capability so the facilities can adapt to changes in the educational process |
Solutions
The project team of Plunkett Raysich Architects, C.G. Schmidt and BCS collaborated with the School Board to establish the schematic designs, preliminary budgets, and project schedules and phasing plans for the two projects. The renovations and expansions will result in two state-of-the-art high schools with equal capabilities. The project team’s efforts will be crucial to the success of the public referendum.
