Project Description
Michigan Technological University engaged The Boldt Company to prepare a market study for a potential new residence hall on its campus in Houghton, Michigan. The study assisted the university in assessing the need for a new residence hall on campus and determining the students’ desired amenities. The student housing would serve upperclassmen and graduate students.
Unique Challenges
Michigan Tech needed the market study completed in six week in order to present it to their Board of Control. In preparing the market study, information was obtained from a number of sources: a web-based housing survey, on-site focus groups with students and professional staff, historical university housing and enrollment data, current on and off-campus housing options and local, state and national demographics.
Solutions
The market study included conclusions regarding student housing preferences, demand for new student housing and price sensitivity. The student demand and preferences were assessed to find the optimal use, size and price of a new residence hall.
